Harrington

A trolley turns a fixed lifting point into a run of beam. Push trolleys are moved by pushing the load; geared trolleys are driven by a hand chain, which is what you want on a long run or when the load needs positioning rather than shoving.

Worth knowing

Push trolleys stop at 10 ton — above that it's geared only, because nobody is pushing 15 tons by hand.
