Lifting points

632 Crosby and RUD part numbers across 42 families — bolt-on, weld-on and plug-in, with working load limits, design factors, torque values and full dimensions as published.

Read this before choosing

An eye bolt pulled at an angle is not rated for anything like its vertical capacity

The rating stamped on an eye bolt is its vertical rating. Pull it at an angle and the capacity falls away sharply — and a plain (non-shoulder) eye bolt must never be side-loaded at all. Crosby publishes the reduction for each angle; use their figures rather than estimating, and never work one out from the vertical rating yourself.

That is the reason hoist rings exist. The bail pivots and the body swivels, so the ring stays aligned with the pull and holds its rating through the full range of angles. If the load will be lifted at anything other than straight up, a hoist ring is usually the right answer and an eye bolt usually isn’t.

Torque matters

Hoist rings are only rated when installed at the published torque — it’s in the table for every model. Under-torqued, the bolt can loosen in service.

Thread engagement

The full effective thread length has to engage, and the tapped hole must be deep enough and square to the surface. Partial engagement is a common cause of failure.

UNC or metric

Both are listed and they are not interchangeable. Check which thread the tapped hole actually is before ordering.

Plug-in lifting points

Dropped into a plain hole and locked. Fast to fit and to move between identical parts.

Inspection

Lifting points wear out

Threads strip, bails bend, and swivels seize. A lifting point that lives on a die or a mould gets cycled far more than most rigging, and it’s easy to forget it’s there. We inspect them alongside the rest of your gear.

Not sure

Send us the application

Tell us the load, the thread in the part, and whether the lift is straight up or at an angle. That’s enough for us to say whether an eye bolt will do or you want a hoist ring — and to give you the right size rather than the nearest one.

Eye bolt or hoist ring?

If the pull isn't straight up, the answer is usually a hoist ring. Send us the load and the angle and we'll confirm the part.
